First Time on Skis at Sugar Mountain
A few weeks ago we visited friends in the North Carolina mountains. While there we wanted to introduce the kids to skiing. I didn't get on skis for the first time until my 20's and I can easily recall how scary it was that first time. (In fact, I still experience a bit of trepidation because we tend to go years between each skiing trip.) Anyway, my husband and I both wanted to introduce our kids to it early on in hopes that they would not have such a steep learning curve and that they would be able to enjoy skiing as adults even more than us.
We went on the weekend after the first big snow in the area (which occurred very late in the season). This meant that it was very crowded and getting gear for all four of us was a major pain in the neck. We persevered and got out on the kiddie slope where I got over my fear and trepidation once again while Kelly helped the kids. Prior to this trip, at least seven years have passed since I was last on skis and I've only ever been skiing maybe 5 times. Therefore, my confidence level was pretty low. Kelly doesn't seem to have my confidence issues however and managed to get the kids up and down the kiddie slope a few times each - yay for daddy!
Here is a clip of Elisabeth giving it a go:
Jonah was motivated to get down the slope so he could ride the conveyer belt type lift back to the the top:
Here is a Jonah after getting off the lift:
We are actually back in the mountains as I write this with plans to go skiing tonight sans the kids. Let's hope it goes well.

Kids have More Teeth than Adults!
Eighteen months ago, I posted a link to this photo but not the actual image. At the time, it really creeped me out. It reminds me of something out of a horror movie. But this is not science fiction! The little guy or gal in your life quite literally has a head full of teeth.

Here's the proof of my own child's hidden pearls. The human body is truly amazing!

Mall Attractions Equal Winter Distractions
Last weekend, we attempted to make some improvements to our master bath. We still didn't finish despite taking nearly all weekend. In order to not ignore the kids for the second weekend in a row, I took them to Cary Towne Center Mall yesterday for a little amusement and shopping while Kelly attempted to finish up.
We began with a ride on the carousel. I think this was officially the first for them to ride together without an adult.
Later, Elisabeth chose to go on the trampoline - something she always pleads for. She (and Jonah) went on one for the first time this past year at the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, but this was her first experience with this indoor version.
Anytime we have gone to any mall in the past they always ask to ride the train to which the answer has always been "no." So, Jonah decided he wanted to ride the train instead of get on the trampoline. He told his dad when we got home, "We finally got to ride the train!" Needless to say they had a great time.
